Formula One and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club team up to build the world’s first in-stadium electric karting track.

Formula One has announced a 15-year strategic partnership with Tottenham Hotspur which will see the production of the world’s first in-stadium electric karting track. The venue will be based at Tottenham stadium’s iconic South Stand and is expected to be London’s longest indoor track. The new circuit will open later this year in the fall.

Partnership Objectives

F1 and the Premier League club will work together to establish a new driver academy program to widen the motorsport talent pool and identify the next generation of drivers. They will also offer educational school activities, showcase career opportunities and guide students on how to get jobs in the industry.

The long-term partnership will also work to increase diversity in the motorsport industry, especially for women and underrepresented groups. Moreover, F1 and Tottenham will collaborate on initiatives that promote environmental responsibility.

Environmental sustainability has become a pillar of focus for the FIA across various series. Formula 2 and 3 will run a new 50% sustainable fuel for their 2023 seasons. And of course, there is the FIA’s primary eco-series, Formula E. As this new program develops it would not be surprising to see links between the electric karting academy and the all-electric World Championship series. Currently, there are limited feeder paths into Formula E and a link between the two could provide future drivers as well as team personnel.

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, said:

“As we continue to grow our sport, partnering with world renowned brands like Tottenham Hotspur allows us to take Formula 1 and motorsport to new and more diverse audiences. The karting experience will be a destination and place that families, friends, and aspiring drivers from all over the world will want to visit and enjoy, engaging new audiences and offering an accessible entry point to the world of motorsport.”

Daniel Levy, Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur, added:

“Since building this stadium our ambition has always been to see how far we can push the boundaries in delivering world-class experiences that will attract people from around the world all year round. We have been able to bring the biggest names in sport and entertainment to London N17. We are extremely excited about what this long-term partnership with F1 will bring for our global, national and local communities.”

The in-stadium electric karting track will not be the first venture in London for F1. In November of last year, the world’s first F1 Arcade opened in St. Paul’s and will host race weekend watch parties, starting with this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix.
